Notes for the Fool
Embers, a live-action role-playing
game, by Embers Productions
Teaching Though Making Noise
The Fool's job is to teach the assembled Garou by finding the holes in
what they hold dear (the Litany) so that the Garou may defend them.
The more grave the insult to the Litany, the better the Fool (in general,
it is possible to go just too far). Some words of advice for the
Fool:
-
Let the Master of the Howl know who you are, so he can call you.
-
Speak loudly and distinctly so that everyone can hear you.
-
Find out in advance what tenets of the Litany that the Master of the Howl
plans to bring up.
-
Practice your challenges to those tenets.
-
Figure out your riddle for the sept in advance.
The Litany
and Litany
Responses bluesheets are good ones to read.
Recitation of the Litany
The Master of the Howl will open by saying, "Like a fire holding back the
Darkness of the Wyrm, our ancient Laws keep us from the Wyrm's foul embrace.
Know thee the Litany Laws [Calls name of the Fool]?"
Fool responds with, "Well enough and better than you."
[Master of the Howl reads a tenet of the Litany]
[The Fool challenges this tenet.]
The Garou may respond right away; if not, then the Master of the Howl
should ask "How say you, Sept of the [Sept Name]?"
[Repeat for the tenets that the Master of the Howl chooses.]
When the Master of the Howl is done, he nods to the Fool, who says
"I leave you with this riddle: [present the riddle]" Ideally, the
riddle is one to enlighten the caern on an issue it faces, if not then
make it a tough one.
The Fool then walks back to his place and sits down again.
